Last night at a networking happy hour, I met two delightful young people, age 22 and 24. They somehow cut to the chase and asked for advice on how to find their purpose in life while they were working the 9 to 5 gig in an industry they stumbled into after college graduation, but were not sure if it were their calling.
Oh how the Universe sometimes puts people in front of me, or in this case, me in front of them!
In the crowded and loud restaurant, three of us put the guards and pretense down and explored the concept of "the calling" with brutal honesty:
At the end, we went away feeling we were supposed to meet each other and with a list of things to do and to follow up with. I feel that I served my purpose for them. They will find other guides along the way.
Last night's experience made me remember what my top 5 strengths were from my StrengthFinder results. For me, it was an affirmation of who I am and what I am good at, and it did help a great deal to gain confidence and faith in directing what I do and how I serve others.
So for the record, here are my top five in order:
